Lemon, Ginger & Honey Tea for Cold Relief and Digestion

This is my drink of choice today. I actually took these photos yesterday when I made this lemon, ginger, and honey tea with my kids and my sister-in-law in mind. My daughter and sister-in-law had come down with a cold/flu-like bug earlier in the week, and then my son and I woke up with it last night. The kids loved this tea so much they kept asking for more. Whether you’re under the weather or simply in the mood for a comforting cup, this blend is delicious and soothing. Every ingredient contributes a gentle, natural boost—especially when you’re sick.

If you’ll excuse me, I should brew another pot and rest… but not yet! We’re taking prom pictures of my younger brother-in-law and his lovely girlfriend later this afternoon, and I’m excited. The tea will have to wait for a bit 🙂

Ingredients

  • 2 herbal tea bags — I used lemon echinacea, but plain lemon or raspberry would work
  • Juice of one fresh lemon
  • 2 1/4-inch slices of fresh ginger
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey, plus more to taste (preferably raw local honey; any sweetener will work)
  • 4 – 4 1/2 cups water

Instructions

  • Combine the fresh lemon juice and ginger in a teapot or small saucepan. Bring the water to a boil, pour it over the lemon and ginger, and add the tea bags. Steep according to the tea package instructions, then remove the tea bags. Stir in the honey and leave the ginger in the pot for about 10 minutes to infuse extra flavor. Serve hot.
  • Notes: Do not give honey to infants under one year. For older babies, allow the tea to cool to a safe temperature before offering. If you plan to add a whole squeezed lemon to the pot, choose an organic lemon or wash the peel thoroughly beforehand. You can also simply use the juice if you prefer.
