I occasionally test bread machine mixes, and one I recently tried is Prepared Pantry’s sour cream and onion bread mix. The finished loaf was a real hit—the Man of the House and I both loved it. It was so good I forgot to take a photo of the baked loaf.
The mix instructions called for melted butter, but because my Zojirushi has a preheat cycle I instead cubed the butter and placed the pieces in the corners of the bread pan. That small adjustment worked well with my machine.
The sour cream and onion loaf turned out simply fabulous. The crust was flaky and the crumb had a pleasant, tender texture. What stood out most was the flavor—I closed my eyes and really savored it. Prepared Pantry did an excellent job with this mix.
If you enjoy savory flavored breads, this mix is worth trying. The balance of tangy sour cream and savory onion creates a memorable loaf that toasts well and pairs nicely with soups, salads, or as a sandwich base. For bread machine users who prefer not to melt butter during preheat, cubing and distributing it in the pan is an easy alternative that delivers great results.
