What We Love About This Recipe

  1. The cold brew technique reduces tannin extraction, so your tea won’t taste bitter or drying. Because cold water is gentler than boiling water, it releases fewer tannins and results in a smoother, milder green tea.
  2. This method is incredibly easy — virtually hands-off. Add the tea to the water, seal the container, refrigerate (or leave at room temperature), then strain the next day.
  3. You can make a large batch and store it up to 4 days in the refrigerator if kept sealed tightly to preserve flavor.

Cheryl’s Tips

  • A mason jar is ideal, but a well-sealed pitcher covered tightly works too.
  • Experiment with flavor additions like orange slices, berries, peaches, fresh herbs (mint, rosemary, or lemongrass), or a little grated ginger for heat.
  • The recipe uses liquid sweetener, but simple syrup or another liquid sweetener works fine.
  • You can use loose tea: about 1 tablespoon of loose leaves per ounce of water is a good guideline.

  • fresh basil leaves ripped by hand

Equipment

  • Large mason jar with lid
  • Wooden spoon
