Ultimate Baby Shower Ideas: Themes, Games & Gift Guide

Last night wrapped up a week full of dinners, wine, family, friends, shopping and birthdays with a lovely finale: our Denver neighborhood hosted a baby shower for our dear friends Max and Listy.

Planning the shower with Tina, Katie and Megan was easy and fun, and I was grateful to have my mother-in-law, Susie, there to help with the finishing touches.

We began setting up early in the afternoon at Drew and Tina’s house. There were many tasks to complete to prepare for thirty guests, from arranging seating to organizing food and decorating.

When guests arrived they helped themselves to cocktails and a buffet of deli sandwiches, raspberry bean dip, hummus, cheese and crackers, and plenty of other delicious treats.
It was wonderful to mingle and catch up with everyone. Old friends and new faces made for great conversation and plenty of laughter.
No baby shower is complete without a few games. The first challenge was to guess the circumference of Listy’s belly using a piece of string. Some guesses were wildly off, while Tina—who is also pregnant—measured it perfectly. Nice work, Tina!
For the men, we prepared a silly but competitive game: beer in baby bottles. Since the shower was coed, they deserved a chance to participate. Whoever finished their bottle the fastest won a Chipotle gift card. Ready, set, suck!
Mr. B didn’t take the prize this time—congratulations to Nick for the win!
After the games, Max and Listy opened their gifts. They received many thoughtful and useful items. I’ll admit being proud of my pick: a pair of baby Converse shoes—too cute!
There was, of course, dessert. Megan brought an absolutely adorable cake—seriously the cutest one—and it was a highlight of the celebration. Mulberries in Denver did a wonderful job with the design.
The shower was a complete success. We sent guests home with charming party favors, and the hosts and guests alike left smiling. After this event, I’m tempted to try event planning professionally—maybe someday.
Congratulations to Max and Listy!
