Smile Toast is a simple, cheerful breakfast idea perfect for family and friends. It turns ordinary toast into a smiley-face surprise that makes the recipient feel special. This easy recipe is kid-friendly—children can make it on their own or help an adult prepare it.

My eleven-year-old son, Noah, actually made this breakfast for me—the photos show his handiwork. Noah is kind, helpful, and thoughtful. His love language is acts of service, so he enjoys doing special things for others and looks forward to weekends when he might get breakfast in bed with a little extra care.
During a recent string of snow days, when school was virtual or canceled, Noah surprised us by making breakfast in bed for his sister and me. His favorite touch was these fun Smile Toasts.

Key to Success #1 – Make it with Love
Whatever you do, do it with love.
“Do everything in love.”
1 Corinthians 16:14 (NIV)
Customize the toast to the person you’re serving. If they love bananas, use banana slices for the eyes and mouth. If they prefer apples, blueberries, or another fruit, substitute those instead. The key is to use ingredients they enjoy and add a thoughtful touch—when you make it with care, it’s always a hit.

Key to Success #2 – Serve it in Bed So That You Can Connect and Talk
After making the Smile Toast, pair it with the recipient’s favorite breakfast drink—juice, coffee, or another preferred beverage. If you want to surprise someone, quietly bring the plate and drink to their bedside while they’re still asleep. Set everything on the bedside table and wait for them to wake up. If they’re nice enough to let you stay, sit with them while they enjoy their toast and use the moment to talk about the day or make small requests—after all, breakfast in bed is a thoughtful gesture.
Don’t forget a napkin; a little honey can get sticky, and a napkin makes the breakfast experience neater and more comfortable.

Key to Success #3 – Always Have Fun
Have fun while making Smile Toast—playful presentation and a cheerful attitude go a long way. Use safe utensils like a butter knife for spreading and slicing, and practice arranging the fruit until you get a smile you like. If you make any little messes, clean them up before serving so the kitchen is tidy when the recipient wakes up.
“Have fun making Smile Toast.”

Your family will appreciate the thought and effort. A simple gesture like this can turn an ordinary morning—especially a snow day—into a memorable moment. If you try Smile Toast for your family or friends, consider taking a photo to show how yours turned out.

Ingredients
- 2 slices of honey wheat bread
- 1 banana
- 2 tsp butter
- 2 tsp honey
- a little bit of love
Directions
-
Toast both slices of wheat bread to your preferred level, about 1–2 minutes. Place the toasts side by side on a plate.

Use a butter knife to spread butter evenly over each piece of toast.
-
Peel the banana. Slice two small rounds for the eyes and leave the rest whole or curved to form the mouth.
-
Drizzle about 1 tsp of honey in the center of each toast slice and place the banana rounds on top—the honey helps hold them in place.
-
Arrange the remaining banana at the bottom of the plate to create a smiling mouth.
